Engineering Guide: Kalmar Reach Stacker Maintenance
Comprehensive documentation for procurement managers. Sourcing correct wholesale forklift parts for DRF450 and DRG Gloria series.
1. The Critical Difference: DRF vs. DRG Series Parts
When sourcing Kalmar reach stacker parts, the most common error is confusing the “Classic” DRF series (2005-2015) with the modern “Gloria” DRG series (2015-Present). While they share the same chassis DNA, their internal components are vastly different.
- Hydraulic Systems: The DRF utilizes a Parker P2 series variable piston pump with specific load-sensing (LS) logic controlled by the K-CU (Control Unit). The DRG series upgraded to a newer Rexroth-based system in some regions. Using a DRF pump on a DRG machine will result in immediate ECU fault codes and hydraulic chatter.
- Electrical Architecture: The DRG “Gloria” introduced the CAN-bus based K-Motion system. Joysticks, screens, and sensor nodes are coded to the machine’s serial number. At Zhenke Machinery, we require your machine VIN to verify firmware compatibility before shipping any electronic unit.
2. Sourcing OEM Kessler Axle Components
The drive axle is the muscle of any reach stacker. Kalmar relies exclusively on Kessler + Co (Germany) for their heavy-duty axles, typically the D102 or D81 series.
Why buy from Zhenke? We source directly from the OEM supply chain. A “Genuine” Kalmar axle shaft comes in a red box with a markup. Our OEM axle shaft comes from the same forge, with the same heat treatment, but at 40% lower cost. We stock critical wear items for the Kessler D102:
3. The Hydraulic Heart: Parker & Rexroth Pump Solutions
The lifeline of any Kalmar reach stacker (DRF/DRG) is its hydraulic circuit. For the main lift and boom extension functions, Kalmar predominantly utilizes Parker P2/P3 Series variable displacement axial piston pumps. These pumps are engineered for high-pressure load sensing (LS) applications, capable of operating at pressures up to 350 bar.
A common failure point we see in older DRF450 machines is “hydraulic drift” or “whining noise” under load. This is often misdiagnosed as a valve failure but is frequently caused by cavitation damaging the pump’s swashplate or valve plate.
Do not replace a Parker pump with a generic “compatible” unit without verifying the Flow Compensator settings. The OEM pump is calibrated specifically for the Kalmar K-CU software logic. Using an off-the-shelf pump with generic LS settings will cause jerky boom movement and can trigger “ECU Error Code 99” on your cabin display. We supply the exact OEM Parker pump (Part No: 923976.0004 etc.) pre-calibrated for Kalmar logic.

4. Engine Power: Volvo TAD & Cummins QSB Integration
Most Kalmar reach stackers are powered by either Volvo Penta (TAD1350VE, TAD1360VE) or Cummins (QSB6.7, QSM11) diesel engines. Sourcing parts for these engines through the official “Kalmar” channel often incurs a 40-60% markup over the engine manufacturer’s price.
As a specialized forklift parts manufacturer and wholesaler, we source directly from the Tier-1 engine component factories in China and Europe.
Volvo Penta Solutions
We stock complete overhaul kits for the TAD series, including cylinder liners, pistons, and the critical AdBlue Dosing Pump which is a frequent failure point on Tier 4 Final machines.
Cummins Diagnostics
For QSB/QSM engines, we supply not just the hardware but also the ECU sensors (Camshaft Position, MAP, Oil Pressure) that often trigger “Stop Engine” faults on the dashboard.
5. Electrical Intelligence: K-Motion & CAN-bus
Modern Kalmar DRG machines (“Gloria”) use a distributed CAN-bus system. A simple joystick replacement is no longer plug-and-play. The joystick node must communicate correctly with the K-CU.
We supply Genuine Kalmar Joysticks and Display Screens. Crucially, for older DRF machines where parts are becoming obsolete, we offer remanufactured ECUs and cabin control units that are fully tested on our simulator benches before dispatch from Ningbo.

6. Global Logistics: From Ningbo to Your Port
Ordering heavy wholesale forklift parts from China requires expertise in logistics. A Kessler drive axle can weigh over 1,500 kg. A Volvo engine block is bulky and sensitive.
At Zhenke, we are experts in Project Cargo.
-
?ISPM-15 Packaging: All wood crates are heat-treated and stamped, ensuring smooth entry into Australia, USA, and EU ports.
-
?Dangerous Goods (DG): We are certified to ship forklift batteries and accumulators (Class 9) via sea and air.
-
?AOG Service: For “Machine Down” emergencies, we use DHL/FedEx Express. A hydraulic pump can reach Los Angeles or Rotterdam in 3-4 days.
Verify Before You Buy
Don’t guess. Send us your Kalmar Machine Serial Number (e.g., DRF450-60S5-XXXX). Our engineers will check the factory BOM to guarantee 100% fitment.
